How does the PGA rankings system work?

The PGA rankings system is a little different from the OWGR (Official World Golf Rankings) system. The PGA rankings system only accounts for players which are professional under one of the PGA sister organizations of the PGA tour itself (such as the European Tour and the PGA Canada tour), while the OWGR accounts for all players world wide who are in some way shape or form ranked. The PGA tour ranks their players based on the points they get per event, and some events give out more points than others. This is also different from the FedEx cup point system which is basically the stanley cup of the golfing world. In the FedEx cup, essentially, the player with the most points at the end of the season wins Champion Golfer of the year and is awarded the FedEx cup trophy along with $15 million. FedEx Cup points are different from PGA points however. We are now going to take a look at the Top 3 ranked golfers in the world as of October 22, 2021. Therse players are the likes of Jon Rahm, Dustin Johnson, and Collin Morikawa.

Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm is a 26 year old Spanish golfer who was born and raised in Barrika Spain, but currently resides in Scottsdale Arizona (home of the world renowned TPC Scottsdale golf course). Over the course of Rahm's professional career he has managed to rack up a total of 13 wins, 6 wins on the PGA tour, and 7 wins on the European tour. Rahm became world number 1 after winning the 2021 U.S Open major championship at Torrey Pines, where he has now won 2 different events at. He likes the course a lot as it suits his eye and suits his natural shot shape well. Earlier on in his career, Jon was sponsored by Taylormade for his clubs, but in January 2021 he made the switch over to Callaway and ever since he made the switch he has been on fire and is definitely the most dominant player in the sport currently.

Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson has been on the golf scene for what feels like an eternity now. Growing up in Columbia South Carolina, Dustin, 36, was always a good golfer, but when he got into high school he started hanging out with the wrong group of friends and got into some serious trouble as a result. Once the dust settled, Dustin knew that he wanted to pursue the sport as a career, but with past occurances it left a sour taste in a lot of scouts mouths and it was hard to find any schools that would take him in. Luckily, the Coastal Carolina Unviversity gave him a chance, and he went on to become one of the best golfers the sport has seen in a long time. Dustin has 27 professional wins with 24 PGA tour victories, and the rest being in international tournaments. Dustin has also won 2 majors with them being the 2016 U.S Open and the 2020 Masters. Dustin has been sponsored by Taylormade for an extended period of time and he can't see himself leaving anytime soon after all the success he has had with their clubs.

Collin Morikawa

Collin Morikawa, a Los Angeles native, is a 24 year old golfer who has been on fire. In his very short professional career, which has only been the span of 2.5 seasons, he has managed to win 5 times with 3 wins being on the PGA tour and 2 wins being on the European tour. Two of these wins were also majors, these being the 2020 PGA championship and the 2021 British Open. Collin is 1 of 2 players ever to win two major by the age of 24, the only other player to do so is the best golfer to ever walk the Earth, Tiger Woods. Collin grew up playing his short home course of only 10 holes and was known to play cross country golf, which is where you tee off on one hole and play to the green of another hole. He used to get off of school and head straight to his course and his hundreds, if not thousands of balls into the net with his long time coach. Like DJ (Dustin Johnson), Collin is also sponsored by Taylormade and has obviously found great success with their clubs. The future is bright for Collin, and we don't seeing him losing his winning ways anytime soon.
